Davies (formerly of OfcirnHospital) has been appointed Matron of the Palmerston North Hospital in succession to Miss McLagan, who has retired. The new appointee received her early training in Palmerston North and then went- to Otira Gorge and Awaroa. She had lengthy war service, being two years in a casualty clearing station, France. On her return to New Zealand she nursed at Trentham Military Hospital, but lately has been in private practice.

GISBORNE HARBOR. GISBORNE, March 23. After further evidence had been given in the Harbour Board case Mr Burnard counsel for respondent Lysnar said that he proposed to call a number of witnesses in Wellington. Mr Myers for the applicant Board, suggested that His Honour refer the case to the Court of Appeal, subject to Barnard’s right in the meantime to call evidence in Wellington. His Honour agreed to Mr Myers’ suggestion.

•ELECTRIC POWETR,. TIMAR.U, March 23. The Hon. Mr Coates who arrived here this afternoon from the south, discussed with the Borough Council the supply of electricity. He stated that if his officers’ figures were correct, South Canterbury could lie supplied from Lake Coleridge within a comparatively short time. The Minister urged the formation of a Power Board to reticulate and retail the supply. Mr Coates went north after the meeting.
