ORANGE AND OTHER. RESOLUTIONS. AUCKLAND, March 21
An Orainge Society resolution lias been forwarded to Air Gunson, approving bis notion 'relative to Bishop Liston’s speech on St Patrick’s Day. The Hospital Board and the Harbour Board also carried a resolution approving of the Mayor's action.
WATER SIDE DISPUTE. WELLINGTON, March 31
In the Arbitration Court, the parties to the waterside workers’ dispute wore unable to agree upon the rate and place of hearing. Air Roberts, for the union said that they were half-way through hearing the disputes before the Conciliation Councils in various parts, and the union was not only ready to proceed with the case next week. If separate awards were made there would he twenty-eight different awards for watersiders in the Dominion. He suggested that if the ease was hoard in the different centres then a. Dominion award inigli he made-.
Air J. Smith, for the employers, said that the application was for a local award. Tie could sec no reason why the ease should not be heard here where the conditions applied 98 per cent, to the conditions in othci pa its. Mr Justice Fraser said that the Court preferred to hear the dispute in at least two centres before giving an award in such a big dispute. The parties ultimately agreed with flic suggestion of Mr Justice ]< rasei that they ‘meet him in chambers this afternoon to discuss the method of procedure.
MOTOR CYCLING. CHRISTCHURCH, March 21. The local Pioneer Club had a flying mile motor cycle race at North Beach, four competing. There was a strong cross-wind throughout the competition, and the soft state of the beach reduced speed by about ten miles per hour in the opinion of the riders. Each competitor was given two trials over a measured mile, with a flying start, and lire results were as follows: G. Lambert (Indian) 15 2-ssccs 1. A. J. Nil-bolls’ (Hurley) 47 3-5 secs 2. T. Haworth (H.T.) 56 3-5 sees. L. Men km an (Harley) also started, but was put out of the running by a broken valve.

Mon. J. G. Coates (Minister of Public Works) at Alexandria turned in the water in .Manuherikei irrigation race. .Mr Coates stated the Otago Centra! irrigation cost 6163.09 ft to date, and the total cost would he over 6180,00(1. The scheme would irrigate LI.OOO acres of land.
STRANDED VA LAI ARTE. DUNEDIN, March 22
The surveyor in charge rf salvage operations of the schooner Valmarie, ashore at Tarewell Spit, reports that the recent heavy seas damaged the vessel to such an extent that it is a practical loss. Salvage operations on the hull have been abandoned, hut an atrempt will he made to salvage the timber cargo. FATAL FALL. NEW PLYMOUTH, March 22. While engaged in building operations yesterday afternoon, a man named Charles Berness Andrews fell from the roof through a plaster ceiling to tip concrete ground floor, sustaining a fractured skull. Mo was removed to the hospital, where To died early thi morning. Mr* was married, and aged 42. Mis wife and three children arc in Auckland.
A CLAIM SETTLED
GISBORNE, March 22
When the case of Paterson v. National Piano Company, of Auckland, a claim for 63,090 damages was called Miis morning, Mr Myers stated a settlement had been reached. The defendant company had agreed to payment ol a certain sum, which was considered satisfactory to both parties. The jury were discharged.
