MONDAY, MAilcH 2oih

The Executive met at. 7.40 p.m r Present Messrs R. Wild (voted to the chair), W. J. Butler, D. J. Evans, C. G. Dalgleish, J. Morris, and H. Jones. An apology was received for the absence of Mr IV. J. Jeffries (President). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was approved. FARMERS’ WINTER SCHOOL.

From H. A. Belshaw reporting the W. E. A. Christchurch, approved the scheme for the winter seliool at Hokitika, May loth-20, and suggesting arrangements he taken in hand to hold the school. —Received, and resolved the President aiul Secretary co-operate in making the necessary arrangements Mr Evads reported that while oil the East Coast last week he had met the executive officers of the Canterbury Progress League and the greatest interest was being taken in the winter school. The President (Mr Henderson) indicated that some very fine pfeople from Canterbury would be making their first visit to Westland, rind would tour the district. The Organiser (Mr Climie) said that a number of Canterbury farthers would atteiid the school, and he thought the project would be a marked success. Mr Evans added as there would be a large influx of visitors to Hokitika for a week or ten days in thfi middle of May, the citizens should take up the rhatte r and organise committees as was done in the case of visiting fire brigades or bandsmen.

After discussion it was resolved to ask the May dr td call a public meeting for d o'clock on Monday afternon next, and iiivite the members of the Borough Council, the members of the Trades Associatiori, the Licensed Victuallers, and all interested with the object of form iug a public Reception Committee; and subcommittees affecting publicity, aceommodaition, entertainment, touring, etc.

Mr Morns (Secretary) reported that the winter school would he attended by. many of the school teachers from the Grey Valley: several of whom, ladies and gentlemen, had greatly enjoyed the summer school at Little River, Canterbury, during the Christmas vacation. It was resolved to invite the farmers of Westland generally, their wives, sons and daughters, to attend the winter school and receive the special instruction in different branches of farming which will be given by the Canterbury visiting professors. Mr Dajgieish stated that it was proposed at Kokatahi during the school session to hold a wittter show, and invito the visitors to the district to* inspect the display. Mr Evans suggested that when the visitors were travelling over, an opportunity might be afforded them ,to inspect the Otira tunnel works. Various matters affecting the visit were discussed and the meeting concluded at 8.45 jl.ni.
