Pussyfoot Plot.
LONDON, January 15
A thorough Pussyfoot campaign is... in full swing with the object of securing the reversal ’of the decision o( the licensing just ices to allow after-theatre suppers in Central London. In granting facilities for suppers in the West End the licensing justices interpreted the Act of Parliament a s a compromise between the views of the extreme temperance reformers and the representations of the business interests of the country as to the importance of restoring to London some of its pre-war attractiveness in the eyes of business people from the United States and the Continent. The decisions of the licensing Hellenes will conic up for confirmation in the first week in February, and this opportunity is being seized bv the Ptissyfooters to stereotype for ever the conditions of the gloomy London of the war. They arc working subtly on a cleverly organised and very thorough plan of campaign arranging among other things that the justices shall be approached personally in an indirect manner with a view to influencing them.
As a counter move to this effort by the Kill Joys, a Brighter London society has been formed, supported by powerful business interests, to defend the concessions that have been won so far, and generally to brighten London. II is supported by the Incorporated Society of Retail Distributors which is representative of 97 of the principal stores of the United Kingdom, the Incorporated Association of Hotel and Restaurant keepers of Great Britain and the West Ein<f theatrical and variety entertainment interests.
The firlst performance of the new Midnight Follies, the delightful suppertime entertainment at the Hotel Metropole, Northumberland avenue, W.C. 2, took place last night. In accordance with the terniß of the decision of the London County Council the number of performers wa s limited to six.
