Irish National Concert.
The Opera House was crowded last night on the occasion of the .annual Irish Concert. The audience were treated to a bright, lively and talented entertainment on the lines of former years. Every item was loudly encored. During an interval Rev. Dr Kennedy thanked the Band for their, assistance also the Gibbons Family and McLean’s Orchestra. He also expressed the committees’ appreciation of the services of Miss M. G. O’Connor of Christchurch and Messrs Clark and Kitchingham of Greymouth, and finally of the local performers who scored such honours that evening The Reverend gentleman also referred to the present state of affairs in Ireland contrasted with the position of twelve months ago. He also referred to the present disputed partition and hoped that before next St Patrick’s Day a peaceful j and united settlement, would be reach- j ed.
The following was the programme which reflects great credit on the organiser, Miss Aileen Daly—Overture, McLean’s Orchestra, (violin), Mr T. G. Flewellen) piano (Miss Gieso), Piccolo (Mr C. Gibbons), cornet (Mr L. Robs) “Hibernia” (encored); Sash Drill by Convent pupils, accompanist Miss R- Jacobs, a very pretty scene in National colours; Song, “Kerry Dance” Miss M. G. O’Connor, encore “Etrin my Country” ; Trisli Jig, Miss and Master Gibbons, musi c piano and piccolo; Song “The Minstrel Boy”, Mr Tom Stopforth, encore “Mother Macrae”; “Ireland I’m Calling You.”' Convent pupils; Piano duet “Irish Melodies” Misses Daly and Devaney; Song “Where the 'River Shannon Flows”, Mr Tom Clark, encore “The Dear Little Girl”; song “She is far from the TJand”, Miss'M. Jones, encore “The Wests’ Awake”; dance “Baggy Breeches” Miss Melba, Gibbons, and Miss Alva Mclntosh; solo “The Dear little Shamrock, Air Kitchingham, encore “Peggy O’Neil” ; solo, “The Hills of Donegal”, Aliss AI. G. O’Connor, encore “The old plaid shawl”; orchestral selections (Irish Fantasia) Convert students (6 violins) ; solo “I’m oil' to Philadelphia, in the morning” Air Toni Clarke, encore “A Nation once again” ; closing chorus “We’ll sing an Irish Song”, Convent pupils.
