AUSTHAI.Io - AN l> N.Z. I,nil.lt ASSOCIATION, I PACIFIC: TREATY. WASHINGTON, March 13. Senators Borah and Johnston led the attack on the Four-Power Treaty today. They were supported by Senators Reed, Robinson and others. The Senate agreed to take a vote on Senator Robinson’s amendment for a reservation (cabled on March lltli), before Tuesday afternoon. . Senator Borah declared that the Treaty means ;i, revival of the old balance of power allinneos. He expressed the opinion that the Treaty will bo disapproved of by those nations who are not signatories, hut who have interests in the Pacific and in the Far East.
Senator Johnston chided the Republican Senators who assailed the Versailles Treaty, but who now favour the ratification of the Four-Power pact..
Senator Edge declared that this Treaty, without “reservations,” was the same as the League of Nations with reservations. Therefore he would vote in favour of the Pact.
JAPANESE DEFEND THE TREATY. NEW YORK, March 14. The “Chicago Tribune’s” Tokio correspondent states: Admiral Knto addressed the Japanese Cabinet yesterdhy. He declared that Japan must remodel her diplomacy in line with the Washington Conference treaties nnd understandings. Admiral Kato said that nothing hut a spirit of concession and self-sacrifice, which was supremely manifested by all could create an atmosphere so unique. Above all, the bold proposal for a naval limitation such as that made by America would remain in history as the most states manlike coup ever made by any nation.

SENATE DISCUSSIONS. (Deceived This Dav at 10.15 a.m.) WASHINGTON, March 14. Senator Leenroot, in the Senate, urged that Mr Harding should withdraw all the Anns Conference Treaties from the Senate and ask the country at November, Congressional elections for a mandate for ratification. Tf the Senate rejects the Pacific: Treaty, the President should also notify the other powers of the action on treaties arc deferred till the question is laid before the American people. Lenroot said the rejection of the Pacific Treaty would create a grave danger of France, and Japan rejecting the naval limitation treaty.
