Hokitika School Committee.

MONDAY, MARCH 6. The Committee met at 7.30 p.m. Present Messrs W. H. Shannon (Chairman), T. W. Bruce, J. King, A. Ait-ken, W. E. Richards, S. J. Preston (Hon. Sec.) and Rlev. Purchas. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Education Board, stating Miss E. Dixon had resigned from the South Spit school and that the position was being advertised for.—Received. Front Same, stating dry timber for the porch and flooring could not bo obtained in Hokitika or Greymouth and had to be, stacked. That no local tradesmen could be found to do the work during the recent holidays.—Received. From .Miss Dixon, teacher, South Spit school, reporting the average attendance a* 18.5 out of roll number of 29.—Received. j RECTOR’S REPORT. I have to report as follows for the month ending March 3rd, 1922: Roll number—-Primary 33(5 j Secondary 69; total 4flo. Average attendance; —Primary 314.9: Secondary (54.3; total 379.2.

The Board’s workmen are at present engaged renewing the corridor floors and erecting the porch over the northwest entrance. —Received. The suggestions were

approved. The Visiting Committee (Rev Purchas) reported a quantity of gorse and blackberry in the grounds required removal and again referred to the overcrowding in Standard 5 and (J room.— Received. It was resolved to again draw the attention of the Board to the necessity of supplying further accommodation especially as the attendance was increasing substantially. Messrs King and Stevenson were appointed visitors for i-lwi month. The Committee rose at 8.19 p.m.
