I Received This uav at 10.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 1. Comprehensive measures are contemplated in an endeavour to restore the Pacific Islands’ trade to Sydney. The decline Ims reached a critical stage. The entire loss of the copra trade is threatened, and shipping communication imperilled. It is proposed that growers, shippers, agents and traders should combine to secure reduced freights, and also the repeal of tbe Harbour Trust regulations which add to the cost of transhipment.

Mr Fraser, Chief Railway Commissioner, claims £2,196,000 was saved by greater co-opera lion and efficiency in the railways and tramways in 1921.
MINISTER’S PROPOSAL. SYDNEY, March 1
Mr Loughlin, Minister of Land, proposes to raise £10,000,000 during the next three years to facilitate settlement, construction of railways and irrigation works. Government will cut up large estates, allowing the owners to retain land valued at £20,000, exclusive of buildings.
MOUNT LYELL CLOSING. MELBOURNE, March 1
Owing to the recent decline in the [ rice of copper, and failure of the company to obtain material relief in the scale of wages and working conditions, through the Federal Arbitration Court, the 'Mount Lvell Board has decided to close down the mine, and confine the blast furnace operation to smelting concentrates alone.
