UNEMPLOYED SOLDIERS. WELLINGTON, Feb. 27. Commenting on the statement made recently that disabled soldiers trained by the Repatriation Department were unemployed, the" District Repatriation Officer states that in most cases, the soldiers trained are being kept on b> the employers. Out of hundreds of soldiers trained in the district, not moio than half a dozen are out of employment. The men are being well trained by their employers, and are making good. SUICIDE. AUCKLAND, Feb. 27 A married man named Win Dudley Foley, aged 30, a farmer at Dairy Flat, was found dead in his room this moi ning with his head practically blown off. and with a discharged shotgun in jns hands. He had been suffering from depression.
ANOTH ER R ISA G R EE WENT. FRESH TRIAL ORDERED. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 27. In the Hayne case, the jury, after a retirement of four hours and II minutes, were recalled. In reply to His Honour, the foreman said that there was no chance of the jury agreeing. An application by the Crown I rosecutor for a new trial at the May sittings was agreed to. The accused was liberated, on hail of £IO6O.

railway washout

A washout on the line (between Paeroa and Tea-roll tv is blocking railway traffic. A repair gang is working and it is hopecl to reopen to-night. The AVaihi line is under water.

The Third Dunedin wool sales of the season was held to-day. The opening transactions showed medium half-bred and merino maintained their values, while other sorts were slightly lower, compared with Just sale.
