Blackball Tragedy
ROPE-BOY KILLED
A sad shooting accident occurred sit Blackball on Saturday about 3.45 p.m., whereby Alexander Outram, a rope-boy 16 years of age. lost his life. On train, in company with his. cousin, Andrew Leitch, a boy of 16, went out shooting birds. The two boys carried firearms, one having a. pistol and the other a pea-rifle. Outram bad a shot at a sparrow, but the rifle missed fire. Then Leitch stepped forward, but slipped .and, happening to have his lingers on the hammer of the pistol, discharged it. The bullet entered Outram’s right side, and the boy was removed to Doctor Little’s surgery, where he later expired. Yesteday morning an inquest was held at Blackball before Mr W. Meldrum S.M., Inspector Matheson, representing the police. After evidence had been given by Dr Little, Andrew Leitch. and others, a verdict was returned that Outram was accidentally killed by a pistol bullet entering his body, and causing internal bleeding and collapse.
