fire At GREY.
This morning’s Argus says:—The ringing of the fireheils at 4;50 a.m. yesterday followed on the discovery of an outbreak of fire in Murray street about five minutes earlier. The scene of the outbreak was ii waSh house at of the residence of Mr Brnerton ,of the Dispatch Foundry staff. It was discovered just in the nick of time by Mr McPhee, an old resident of the locality, who gave the alarm. A member of the Gas Works 'staff then rang the Tainui-Chapel street firebell, and
the Greymouth Fire Brigade, with their usual promptitude had their'engine on the spot. For a few minutes the blaze was quite big, and it had just reached the porc-h of the residence by
the time the firemen got their hose into action. The wash house was demolished as well as a bicycle and other contents. The Brigade prevented any other damage ,and put out the fire in quick order. The building belongs to Mr J. McKinty, and did not suffer much damage at the back. Credit is due to Mr McPliee for his promptitude in giving the alarm.
