CRITICISM OF MEAT POOL

SYDNEY, Fob. 23. Sir Philip Proctor, formerly director of meat supplies in the Ministry of Food in the British Government, lias been appointed Australasian representative of Vcsteys Ltd. Entertained at the Millions Club, lie said he strongly resented Government interference wi‘h private trailers. He thought the Commonwealth should leave the develojvment of the Northern Territory to private pioneers. While the British Government meat pool served the purpose during the war, lie hoped there would never he another, as it encourag'd people to look for the paternal action of Government to remedy matters, instead of doing it for themselves, for instance, the New Zealand Government recently passed legislation placing tlie whole of the export trade of the' Dominion under one department. It was farcical, if they thought some official rf the New Zealand Government cold 1 regulate the British meat- markets for the benefit of the New Zealand producers. Such a hope was utterly illusive, and showed how far the present meat producers had -retrogressed from the indomitable spirit of the Dominion pioneers.
