THROUGH SOUTH WESTLAND

The following is the draft of the tour of Hon J. G. Coates, Minister of l’ubl.V: Works, proposed to be taken through South Westland next month :

March lli—Leave Barrytown, via Greymouth and Kumara to Hokitika.

March 12.—Via Rimu Flat and Ross to Okarito (probably lunch at Hari Hari) . March 13.—Motor to Wniho Gorge; ride to Weheka. March 14.—Ride to Maliitabi via Bruce .Bay. March 15.—Mahitahi to Haast. March’ 16.—Haast to Jackson Bay. March 17.—Return to Haast. March 18.—Over Haast Pass, camping 'perhaps at Clarke’s hut or Mnkalorft. Next day to Pembroke, Lake Waiiakfi. The dates given are not absolutely definite, but the stages are fairly s°‘ In connection with tile foregoing sonle slight variations have been suggested to include a, visit to Waitnha Settlement, and to spend the night at Hari Hftri, after visiting the district roads and swamp lands. The Hon Minister lias been invited, also, to pass over the traniwav of Stuart arid Chaprriari Ltd., following Bold Head road, as there is now ain application before the Public Works Department for leave to carry goods and stock over the tramway when ready for the traffic.
