QUICK-STEP CHAMPIONSHIP. WELITNGTON, Feb. 19 In the presence of twelve thousand •pertators at the Athletic Park on Sat’relay, twenty-two bands took part in l lie quick-step competition; and the massed bands’ display. The competition was divided info two sections, 200 points being allotted to drill and inarch discipline, and 100 points to music.

Colonel Beere, Major Johnston, Cap tain AA'illianis and Sergeant-Alajo; Lnifey judged the military operations and ATr If. Sluigg, of Melbourne, judge: the music.

The competition occupied six hours The results were;—

First Canterbury M.R.: Marchim; 161*3, Music 90; total 2514. Gisborne City Band: Marching 168.}, Music 79; total 247}. Hastings Town Band: Marching 171, Music 72; total 243. Auckland Military Band: Marching 162} Music 79 ; total 241-}. Woolston Brass Band: Marching 155;’-, Music 83; total 2385. Palmerston North Municipal Band: -Marching 168}, Music 67 ; total 235}. Marton Municipal Band: Marolling 1.941|, Music 70; total 234}. Among the remainder the order of merit was:—Wellington Artillery, Westport Garrison, Hamilton Municipal, Second Otago 'Regiment-. Wellington Waterside Workers, Masterton Municipal, Queen Alexandra’s Own, ITawera Citizens, Fourth Wellington Regiment, Christchurch Tramways, Nelson Silver, Wellington Patriotic Society.
