BIG SHEEP SALE. TAUMARUNUI, Feb. 15. Ten thousand sheep were yarded at Taumarunui yesterday, but owing to the shortage of trucks there was no sale for fat lambs. Four hundred trucks were asked for a few days ago, and seven hundred were required yesterday, but none were available. Otherwise the sale was very healthy. Farmers are indignant about trucks.
BREAKING AND ENTERING. TAUMARUNUI, Feb. 15. The Police arrested Clifford; Double last night for alleged breaking -and entering and stealing some money.
HIGHWAY ROBBERY. TAUMARUNUI, Feb. 15
The police are also investigating a case of highway robbery. A man named McKenzie, going home on Saturday night was waylaid by two men wearing masks and carrying a revolver. They robbed him of seven and sixpence. It is believed they got the wrong man. Another resident in the vicinity m rived that night by the race train from Tekuiii with £2OO .in his pockets, hut lie got home safely.
COMPROMISE ARRANGED. CHRTSCHUROH, February 15
The dispute between Borthwick Ltd. nndj their employees at the Belfast freezing works has been settled, AH the men will resume to-morrow morning. A compromise was arranged though the Labour Department which advised lxvth parties and acted ns mediator DROWNING FATALITIES. INVERCA RGILL, February' 15. Tlie police were advised to-night that while a boat containing two men was crossing the Oreti River to Otatara. it capsized. One of the occupants a man named Culhan, reached the shore, but the other, Ackers, is missing and it is feared that he was drowned. Two constables have gone out to search for the missing man. FATAL MOTOR ACCIDENT. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 15. Mrs McHale, of Chorlton, Banks Peninsula, while motoring in Christchurch yesterday, leaned over the front seat of the car to place a coat on the rear seat. She over balanced and fell out on her head, suffering a fractured skull. She died in the hospital this afternoon. ' ' ' ' A
N.Z. FARMERS’ POLITICAL PARTY.
AUCKLAND. February 15
The Provincial 'Executive 'of the Farmers’ Union have decided, in conformity with a decision at the last provincial conference, as a test, pending confirmation by the branches concerned that six Parliamentary seats shall he contested at the next general election. These seats are; Ray of Plenty, Marsden, Thames. Ohinemuri, Waikato, nnd Waitomo. It wag decided to appoint a leader for the Farmers’ Political Party. It was also resolved to make a tentative selection of candidates for the six seats mentioned. The Leader of the Party, it was decided, would hold meetings in the various constituencies. and address delegates from the branches interested. The Watiches would he required to approve of the selected candidates, or to select their own. In the event of the branches of any constituency deciding not to run a Farmers’ Union Candidates, the Executive would take no further action regards that particular seat. SCHOOL TRAINING. AUCKLAND, February 15. The Education Board has reaffirmed its decision not to permit the Nelson system of Bible instruction in the Rotorua School.
