'USTttA*T.TAN AND N. 7.. OABT.K ASSOCIATION. PROFESSIONALISM IN FRANCE PARIS, Feb. 11. The Football Federation decided not to pln.y an Association match, against England on February 28tli unless England excluded professionals. The French Rugby Federation expelled M. Gason Vidal, Under-Secretary, of State for Technical Education,, and better known as French Minister for Sport. M. Vidal recently denounced the growth of professionalism among French footballers, and protested against the excessive value the Federation placed on revenue from gatmes. He said sport was degenerating into a mere spectacle, and some great matches were “circus parades.” M. Vidal’s frankness annoyed the French clubs, which called on him to justify his defamatory language. He replied that he had spoken as Secretary of State. After a secret, ballot had been taken he was expelled by 195 votes to 170, Tt is noteworthy that M. Reichel, vice-president of the Football Association, has just resigned las a protest against the Association allowing clubs to play against English professionals.
