Wellington Band Contest

There are 27 bands competing and they all marched through the city in the afternoon, when they were given a civic reception on the Basin Reserve in perfect weather. This morning’s contest resulted: G. Trombone —F. C. Gumming (Wellington Wntersiders) 8G points; I. I Told a way (Nelson Garrison) 81; A. i ■Handley (Fourth Wellington Regiment, New Plymouth) 80.

When tbe Band Contest opened today, there was a. large gathering present. At the civic reception to the visitors, the Mayor, Mr Wright M.P., welcomed the hands from all parts of the Dominion. There was a spectacular parade when all the hands inarched through the city. It was mentioned that there had boeri no band contest held in Wellington for eleven years. The bands competing include the winners of the different grades at the recent contests. It is expected that there will be keen competition. The solos began to-day, and will continue tomorrow. In the evening the B. Grade selection, “Giralda,” with twenty entries will commence. Further results are: Drum golo—G. Kilmartin (Palmerston North Municipal) 45, 1; H. Hall (Wanganui Garrison) 43, 2; W. Horne (Wellington Regimental, New Plymouth) 42, 8. Side Drum Solo.—W. Cnrtnciliael (Palmerston North) 43, 1; T. Gee (Auckland Artillery) 41, 2; P. Beadle (Invercargill Hibernian) 35, 3. QUARTETTE RESULTS. WELLINGTON, February 13. The Band Contest was continued tonight in tne Town Hall. The whole of the evening was devoted to the quartettes, no less than 28 entries being received. Result: Waterside Workers (Wellington No. 1) 1 ; Invercargill Hibernian 2, Woolston No 1, 3rd; Waterside Workers (Wellington No 2) 4th.
