MISS KELLERMAN’S COMMENTS. WELLINGTON, Feb. 9. Miss Annette Kellerman, who witnessed to-day’s great contest between Miss Shand and Miss Hoeft, describes New Zealanders as the keenest people on swimming in the world. She thought now, that for the first time in the .annals of swimming, the Dominion could challenge the world. If Ar i-s Shand and Miss Hoeft could go to Australia it would make competition there twfice as good as it had been, and it would lie better for the sport generally. Australian swimming had been stagnant of recent years, and bad not made anything like the progress. swimming had made in New Zealand. Miss Kellerman stated that she had sent a message to the swimming authorities in Australia, suggesting a visit from Miss Shand and Miss Hoeft. “I am prepared to finance Miss Shand’s trip,” said Miss Kellerman, “and ‘ I sincerely hope that arrangements will be made to send Miss Hoeft also.”
