Licensing Law.
RECESS SITTINGS OF COMMITTEE SUGGESTED. I ■ WELLINGTON, Feb. 1. Early this session the Prime Minister agreed to set up a Parliamentary Committee to consider whether or not amendments should be made in the present licensing law. To-day, Mr Hockley (chairman of the committee.) brought down the following report, which was ordered to lie on the table of the House for consideration by the Government: — That, in the opinion of this committee, the time has arrived when the licensing laws should be revised, and with this end in view, it is recommended that leave be granted the Licensing Committee to sit during the recess, as a Recess Committee], to enable it to bear evidence, and bring down such amendments as, in its opinion, should be made in the Licensing Acts.
The Committee recommend that such proposed amendments to the Licensing Acts be submitted to the Crown Law draftsman, for embodiment in an amending Bill to be introduced next session for the consideration o ftlie then Licensing Committee.
