J Mr Tucker, Vice-President of the \ 'Rent-payers’ Protection League, said 1 that the present Act had done a great ; deal off good and they feared any pro- ; posal which would give greater lil>erty j to landlords regarding possession. S There were certain unfair means a.p- ---! plied by landlords. Penis were still i increasing. j Another speaker said while there was I such a serious shortage of houses there ! would l>e promiscuous evictions unless the Government stepped in. The league asked that the hardship clause he retained, and also that the ■ provisions relating to the occupancy of premises by owners should be made i more strict. ! The .league also proposed that tene- | ment houses should he licensed. The Minister. Mr Anderson replied that he recognised the importance of the points raised, and that there were hardships on both sides. The suggestions would bo considered.
