N NEW YORK, Jan 26. j A 15-year old girl has charged Tex | Rickard (the fight promoter) wtih hav- ! ing mistreated her. j The girl was cross-examined at Ric- j kard’s trial on tlie charge. The girl j stuck to her story. She admitted that ' she had lied several times in accusing ‘ othe rtnen similarly on previous occasions, but insisted she was telling the 1 truth this time. Rickard’s Counsel said: “I believe! there will lie no difficulty in*proving th e 1 girl is lying in this case.” i SECRET DIPLOMACY FAILURE, j WASHINGTON, January 26. Senator Johnson, addressing the Sen ate, attacked the secret sessions of the Arma'ment Conference. Bel declared that the Conference had started with the modem methods 6f open diplomacy that had been sponsored by Mr Hughes (United Secretary). Then Mr Balfour had followed Hughes example and the rest trailed along. He said; “Look what the Armament Conference accomplished at those open sessions ? Then look at what it accomplished secretly.” Johnson opposed any quadruple alliance but he supported disarmament.
