The Late Pope.

THE POPE’S BURIAL. AUBTItA LI AN AND N.Z. CARLE ASSOCIATION ROME, January 26. The late Pope was buriebd, the body ibeing placed in a coffin in the c hapel. The Holy Sacrament of Absolution was , then read. The body was carried to the vaults and interred there with as little ceremony as possible. The Pope’s coffin consisted of three casings. The first was of Cypress wood lined with silk, the second wa s of lead and the third of elmwood. After the body had been placed in (the Cypress coffin, Monsignor Galli read an account of the Pope’s life from a parchment scroll, which was then placed in a copper cylinder, and laid in the coffin, as also was a red velvet purse, containing specimens of all the medals truck during the' late Pope’s reign. The coffin casing was sealed by two violet silk ribbons, placed crosswise over the lid. The lead casing was sim ilarly sealed. REQUIEM MASS. j (Received This Day at 9.5 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 27. There was a record attendance at Westminster Cathedra] for the celebration of the requiem mass for the Pope, those present including representatives of the ICing and Queen, and Queen Alexandra, foreign ambassadors, and military attaches from the Embassies. The scene was impressive and striking.
