At a largely-attended mass meeting , of civil servants, the Government’s retrenchment proposals were condemned ; by speakers representing .various branches of the public service, and a resolution in the same terms as the recent Wellington resolution was carried unanimously. PALMERSTON N., January 25. A mass meeting of 150 representaftives of all branches of the public service held to-night, unanimously passed l the following resolution : “That this meeting of public servants enters a most emphatic protest against the Bill now before the House, and the clauses contained therein. We have held to our agreement to a reconsideration of salaries, based on the Government Statifetician’s figures, and still do so. We expect these figures to be re-vised as from April 1, and assure our Several executives of our utmost support in any action necessary to ensure the • absolute fulfilment of this agreement.
