A mass meeting ot civil servants discuaseu the Government’s proposed remictiou ot salaues and resolutioned trial tnis combined meeting of civil servants most emphatically protest agauisu rlie proposed reduction of salaries and wages, un trie lollowing grounds :—(a) .-v flagrant breach of agreement is proposed inasmuch as trie hu per cent cut proposed when the cost of living is alleged to have fallen only 1U per cent; (0 ) Reasons given in jusLiueation seems unsound and illogical in view or tne rebates on land tax and income tax, every operation of which i,clients the wealtny only, the hard up individuals it was intended to help, not having the ready cash on the due, oate, do not participate; fc) Nothing more than special taxation, which snouid be held in abhorrence in this uemocratie country; (d) As the country’s interest is not the sole concern any deficiency should be met by a general tax on all; (e) that trie method of reduction is on tne shoulders of those least able to bear it when its operation should have the reverse effect.
