USEFUL GAS SERVICES

I THIS WEEK’S OPPORTUNITY. A noticeable feature at the Wharf Labourers’ picnic on Cass Square was I the excellent system in vogue for mak- ! ing and distributing tea and hot water, j It was a perfect model of the modern versus the old system, or in other words gas versus solid fuel. To say that the adaptation of gas to the wash-house copper has revolutionised things is to put j matters mildly. The cost of boiling water for the day worked out at 7d per copper of 16 gallons of water. Each copper was brought to boiling point in 45 minutes. The application of gas for domestic and general cooking purposes has enormously. increased in New Zealand, as in every other country, in recent years, and the people of to-day cannot but realise the many advantages it affords. Exereme economy is obtained, as fuel is burnt only during the operation of cooking or heating and no longer.

Gas cookers and heaters do not require any preparation before being used as do other cooking appliances. For quickness, cleanliness, and uniformity of heat, the Gas cooker and heater has no rival. The simplicity of construction and low cost of apparatus and fuel should commend them to all. Homes desirous of learning more about the uses of Gas for domestic purposes should apply to the Manager for information. The meters will he inspected this week, and consumers will have a first-hand opportunity of obtaining particulars of an extension ot the use of their gas service to improve the comfort and convenience of the home life.
