SYDNEY, January 11. is soon nr the prohibition cf trade with Germany is removed, the German Australian Steamship Company, proposes to resume its service to Australia. The steamers of this company were a familiar sight in Australian ports before the war, and had. a big share of the freight to the Continent and Mediterranean ports. Many of the GermanAustralian steamers were captured during the war, and now figure under the British flag and under different names in th© r ßritish mercantile marine. In conjunction with the North German Lloyd), the German Australian company intends to'establish a monthly cargo service to Australia by agreement with the Holt line. Details of the arrangements have not, so far, reached Australia. At the same time, the South African service is to be resumed. With the beginning of. this year the North German Lloyd (the N.D.L.) reopened its offices in New York, and is resuming some of the lines run before the war. Direct communication with the United States was the first move contemplated this year, and the Bremen to New York service will be running again in February. Since September 1920, the N.D.L. has maintained a cargo service to Brazil with two of its boats. Henceforth the steamers .will run monthly. A new s/teamer, the Mindon, recently built at the Stettin Vulean yards, has been placed on the run and will carry a few passengers.
