POLITICAL JOTTINGS.

IMPERIAL AFFAIRS. WELLINGTON, January 16. Replying Mr Malcolm, Mr Massey said he did not favour divided councils in Empire affairs, and therefore he did not agree with the proposals to let the dominions contract themselves out of Imperial agreements. He would, in a probability,,in the course of a few days let the British Premier know what Ins views were, as representing the people of New ealand on this subject. THE MEAT POOL.

Replying to Mr Lysnar, Mr Massey said there was no foundation m the rumour that the meat pool was going to be abandoned. Judging by appearances, viz., the rise in the price of meat, and the drop in freights, he though the meat pool was making considerable progress. Any legislation necessary would be introduced this session and financial arrangements would be made as soon as possible. FINANCE FOR RETURNED SOLDIERS.

Replying to Mr Mr’Combs, Mr Massov said that the difference between financing returned soldiers and financing the meat pool was considerable. In one case cash was required and in the other it was not. As soon as opportunity offered he proposed to borrow sufficient money to complete financial arrangements for returned soldiers. THE BUTTER MARKET. Replying to Mr Brown, Mr Massey said that he was iwaiting information from experts at Home, as to whether there were any unfair influences at work in connection with the butter.
