[BV TELEOIIABiI—IV.R ?UKBB ASSOCIATION ] POISON ANT) A RAZOR. MAORI ATTEMPTS’ SUICIDE. PA'lillOA, January 11. A young Maori named lluke Royal, late of Thames, nttempted suicide by cutting his throat with a razor in a Maori section beyond the Te Aroha Bridge, near Paeroa. Shortly before committing the deed he called on his sister, who is employed at Dr Smith s residence, and informed her that he was going to do away with himself. He had a box of poison, which he opened in her presence, and placed some of the paste in a piece of bread. The girl watched her opportunity and succeeded in knocking the bread from his hands on to the floor. He immediately put his hand in his pocket and drew out a paper containing a will, also some £3 or £4 and a little silver saying. -‘These are for you. “Goodbye; this is the last.” He immediately left, and the young lady immediately communicated with Constable McClinchy who went in all haste in search of him. When he saw the constables approaching he drew the razor across his throat and fell to the ground. The constable, with the assistance of Mrs Little, rendered first aid by stopping the bleeding and bandaging the wound As both doctors were absent from the town at the time, the sufferer waa conveyed by motor to the Waihi Hospital by Constable McClinchy. The young man’s parents reside at Thames.
