BRIAND'S EXPLANATION.
LONDON, Jan 10. M. Briand, Freifch Premier, at the conclusion of the meeting of the gupremei Council at Cannes, informed the press representatives that certain newspapers have been giving currency to the falsest of rumours. It was said, in particular ,that, with a view to reviving a guarantee of France’s.position, a military alliance in tl(e form of an agreement, was likely to be realised M. 1 Briand continued‘Thanks to the concession which France is disposed to makd in respect of her national defence and to the position which the Treaty gives her on the Rhine, nothing of this kind was touched upon in the conversations between myself and Mr Lloyd George. The only question discussed has been whether it was tci the interests of the two powers that. Germany should he confronted with the forces of Britain and Franco if she made an attempt at revenge.
