DEFECTS IN AUSTRALIAN SYSTEM. AUCKLAND, Deo. ». The grave defects which ho had observed in the immigration system of Australia were mentioned by Dir Frank Spudding, managing director ol the “Glasgow Daily Record and Mail,” who arrived from Australia by the Niagara, yesterday.
Mr Spudding said he was greatly im | pressed by what lie had seen of Australia. being particularly interested in the population problem and the efforts made to stimulate immigration. From his ohservaions in several of the States lie felt that far ton many people bail been attracted from Great Britain without a proper comprehension of Australian conditions, only to learn, as the result of hitter experience that they were unsuitable. To obviate this, Mr Spudding suggested that Australia should have an Intelligence Department in London able to give absolutely reliable information to intending immigrants. The result, lie lelt sure, ivmtld he advantageous in every wav. and yield a large number of the kind of men really wanted. Mr Spudding remarked upon the. utter hick of dignity observable, in several of tlie Parliaments which he attended ill Australia, and said he noticed that the hahour Governments seemed to display a Bolshevik antipathy towards Great Britain.
