RAILWAY HOGGING STOCK. I.OC'OMOTIVEfi FROM ABROAD. WEI.KINGTON, Dec. 1 For the first time for many years, the Railways Department is importing locomotives. This is due to war conditions, which have made it impossible for the Department and private manufacturers to turn out the required number. Some time ago an order for 15 engined of the A.II. type (well-known from their use on the Alain Trunk linos of liolh islands') was placed with the North British Locomotive Company. Seven of these hip engines have now hocti landed. One, which was unshipped at Wellington, was erected at I’etoue. and is now running. The s'ix others have goon landed at Auckland. The Department has now about 20 A. 11. new engines in service out of about 750 engines on the whole system. The A.B. type has been designed hv the Department’s own otlieials. and the imputed engines have been built according to the Department's drawings ami specifications.
