State Control.
I A TRADE DENIAL. I WELLINGTON, Nov 23. | Tn reply to a statement made by Rev I W. .1. Comrie at the Presbyterian Assembly regarding the elimination of the State control issue, Mr J. R.. Raw, Secretary of the National Council of the Licensing Trade, said the trade had not made any proposals whatever in ronnection with the matter. They fully m-ognised the right of those electors of State Control having lh<‘ means of expressing their opinion at the ballot box. For this reason they were strongly opposed to the elimination of the issues and would not under any circumstances make the franchise of the electors medium for political bargaining.. The Prohibition Party were doing their utmost to have the State Control issue removed from the I,allot papers, and if they were successful, Rev Comrie and his party must take the whole responsibility for disfranchising over thirty-two thousand electors. He wished to give a clear and emphatic statement of denial to the statement that the licensed trade, described hv Rev. Comrie as "the other side.” had made any proposals to Mr Massey or roiitempfnted entering into anv bargain whatever about the issue of State Control.
