From Christchurch Oas Coy. further information in reference to gas water heaters. Received. It was resolved on the motion of Messrs Wood aiul Kui}l to procure three 16 gallon heaters. From A -Harris and Co. re electrical machinery.—Received. From A .Keller drawing attention to the dancer of smoking etc. in Princess Theatre during the course of an enter-tainment.-Received. The Mayor moved that the attention of the Theatre "roprietoas drawing attention to the complaint and asking {or steps to he taken to prevent it in future. Seconded »>v Mr McGregor and carried. From W. H. Shannon and E. Johnstone asking for barricade for sand to he extended north of Park Street. Received; already lieing attended <O. From Department of Public. Health, circular re rat destruction, insisting on active measures being taken to destroy Vats and asking for returns monthly of rats killed.—Received. It was resolved that the Inspector be instructed to take every precaution in connection with rubbish heaps and in the destruction of rats. A house to house inspection to be made. It was resolved to offer a reward of Is per dozen for rats. From J. Drake, in reference to instructions to remove old Royal George building.—Received. Mr Mood moved that immediate steps he taken undet the Municipal Corporation Act to have the structure demolished. Seconded by the Mayor and carried. From ('has Gibbons, inspector, asking for annual leave. Received and granted. From Treasurer reporting receipts CIS4 iris lid, payments, £2lO 7s -Id; debit balance £(?44 4s 2d.-Received. The Inspector’s report was read and received. The Reserves Committee per -Mr Wood reported having given the caretaker of Mncandrew Square a month’s notice.—Received and confirmed, Mr Blank voting against as a protest at a committee taking action that should be made by the Council alone. Air Plank di*w attention to the da-ma-'u done to the roads by the motor lorries, and also to the excessive speed of them. It was resolved to instruct the Inspector to take action against speed offenders. , Jlr Perliam asked if any steps were being taken to repair South Hokitika road, which was a matter of urgency, and had been promised attention some meetings ago. The Overseer reported that, he had not received any instructions on the matter. Referred to the Public Works Committee to attend to. Mr Plank moved that the Public Works Committee report as to whether a fee should he charged motor lorries and the routes for them to use. Seconded by Mr Perry and carried. Mr Coulson referred to the danger by live wires bringing the power into the town, now that the kite flying season was on. After discussion the matter dropped. The Council rose at 8.20 p.m.
