II The House of Representatives will meet to-morrow afteriiomi and will resume the debate upon the Financial Statement and the motion of the Leader of the Opposition expressing dissatisfaction with the (iniincinl policy of the Government. Revoral members have indicated their desire to take part in the debate, lmt it is anticipated that a division upon Mr Wilford’s motion will he reached to-morrow evening or on Wednesday. THE NEAY TARIFF.
The next business willin' the new tarill. Discussion in the lobbies suggests that most members of the House are prepared to accept the main lealures of the new tarilf, as submitted hv tJ iv Government. The strengthening of the British preference and tho introduction of the intermediate tariff are features that seem to have almost unanimous support. But details of the tarilf seem likely to he debated keenly. Representatives of various Dominion industries have been very active among members of the House since the tariff schedules were circulated, and il may lie assumed tha't they have been supplying “briefs” to members. Some anomalies have been pointed out nlload.v, and the .Minister lor Customs will have some amendments of his own to proposo. The Lahonr members Have indicated their intention of objecting to the duty on ton.
