Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year, and, as a result it creates a rather unique situation. In 1900 a Bill was introduced hy the then Minister of Internal' Affairs, with the object of “Monilayising” certain statutory holidays, and one of the holidays which, when occurring on a Sunday, is to he recognised on the following day as a holiday is Christmas Day. Though other holidays may easily he postponed a day. the effect at Christmas leads to a complication. There is, however, nothing to prevent race meetings, other holidays and sports which have previously been celebrated on Boxing Day from taking place on the Momlayised Christmas Day. The Cabinet has been considering (Ids matter, as it alfects business genecillv and it is understood that ail amendment, to the 1910 Act will he proposed during this session.
