Speaking at the Yorktown celebrations ;on the anniversary of the surrender of Lord Cornwallis to the Americans in the revolutionary war of America, the United States President, Mr Harding, announced, America’s unequivocal opposition to becoming a party to any alliance in arms or to the submerging of its nationality to any world sovereignty, The President declared that ofte need not picture the idea of world sovereign*, tv. because it wilt never he. ‘'We believe,” he said, “that there Ls .aii.hrjgent need for bringing the best thought of all the great peoples into an understanding in a co-operative endeavour ; an endeavour which shuns all alliances in arms, but strengthens
concords ana peace. The President, declared also that Liberal opinion throughout the world has honefitted by the American Revolution. Inevitably this had brought ’Britain and America to a policy of ac_ commodntion and of. Pacific adjustment for all their differences, until to-day fhey found the United States and Britnin naturally arranged to-gether in a trusteeship for preserving eirili? snion. Any future breach of. peaceful and friendly relations was unthinkable.
