It is understood that it settled most of the preliminaries, and will get down to serious business tomorrow. Probably the Conference will discuss tlie question of widening the representation at the Conference, and of inviting Ulster delegates. POPE AND IRELAND. LONDON, October 18. The London “Morning Post’s” Rome correspoiuleait. states: Cardinal &asparri (Papal Secretary of State) has informed the English pilgrims now on a visit to the Vatican, that the Tope had telegraphed to the King expresssing hopes for the success of the Irish Conference.

It is announced from Belfast that it has been decided to reorganise the Ulster Volunteer Force, in consequence of the inactivity of tho British Government in coping with the S> lln Fein who have established camps in Unionist quarters, and are openly drilling with rifles, and machine ‘guns ULSTER’S DESIRE (Received This Day at 8 a.m.) . LONDON, October 18. Sir James Craig, in the course of a spirited reply to Sinn Fein criticism of his recent speech, declared the six Ulster counties hung together and could not allow tampering therewith. He strenuously eounterqd the idea that Ulster was a bargaining factor in the present situation. Ulster wanted nothing except to be left to work out her own destiny.
