It is pleasing Ko sec that a delink ■ proposition has been arrived at as to the rehabilitation of the Municipal baths. The community will owe this not so much to the Borough Council, as to the management of the Kleetrie Power Company. When approached for water to keep the baths in Usable order, the municipal authorities replied nothing could I'e done, as there was not the water to spare! On making representations to the Power Company, the management realised at once that' the filths were established for the public welfare, tmd were ready to stretch a point to assist the community. Further it was agreed to provide the plant at oust price and instill it at fchc actual expense incurred. This is very generous indeed ami the community should Ik* very gratelul for the liltoral concession made. Instructions have been issued now to have the baths put in order, and the requisite plant will be installed as soon as it is procurable If all goes well, the baths shorn! he available for use next month. This is very satisfactory, under all the circumstances, for jt will Is 1 a source nl satisfaction to have the baths in good running order for the coming summer. Tt is not ns snfcfnetory, however to
learn that the water supply is still of that negligible character to be insufficient to meet urgent requirements. The water supply is not equal to the demands upon it. and we know that the demands are increasing. There is n weight of responsibility oil Council to see the defects remedied. This has been the burden of a previous complaint, but nothing seems to be done. If anything untoward should happen a serious responsibility will rest on tho individual councillors who are neglecting their duty in this matter. The seriousness of the liability thrust upon the members should he met by promptami definite action. Tnnun will be general satisfaction expressed all round that Mr Lloyd George is finding it convenient to head the British delegation at the Washington Conference on disarmament issues, to lie held now ill less than a month's time. No one will appear to better advantage, nor has anyone hotter qualifications tu represent Great Britain at such a history-making gathering. Air Lloyd George has been all through the war
period uml its aftermath. Hf knows all about the horrors of war ami tlio terrible conditions which follow in tlm train of war. He knows this not only of his own country, hut also of stricken Europe. And he is a man who can describe what lie secs and illustrate what he knows in most impressive language. Wlrit lie has to say will carry great weight. His personality will pro--I,ahlv dominate the Conference, hut it will lie a personality which is bent on saving mankind from another war holocaust. There are supposed to he some war clouds drifting over I lie Pacific. A mischievous press is bent on magnifying the situation, and apparently would make war if they could. ’Hie parties concerned in all this, are Britain. .Japan and the Coiled .States. If there is any man who has a complete and resolute grin of the matters at issue it is Mr l.loyd (leorge. ' He will he entirely on the side for peace, and if we mistake not will lie able to dominate the position and bring to an amicable coding the matters at issue. There i.mi doubt tile nation will he delighted tc see Mr l.loyd (leorge at Washington. Tim Leader of the Opposition in the Commons lias specially urged it. recognising the great work it is possible fot the British Prime Minister to do. It is therefore entirely gratifying to learn that Mr [,lovd (leorge is making hipreparatinns to cross the Atlantic and take his place at the Conference table. It will become at once a most notahh gathering.
