AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CATII.E ASSOCIATION. OPPAU DISASTER. I BERLIN, September 22. j The rescue work is proceeding at Oppan. Numbers of missing are believed to be imprisoned alive among the wreckage of the collapsed houses. Thousands are homeless and sheep in the field. The dreadful aspect of the disaster is the numbers stricken with blindness. Fifty eases were sent to Heidelberg. Three fourths- of Oppau is beyond repair. They most make a clean sweep of the ruins and start afresh. LONDON. Sept. 23. Oppau telegrams report that bodies are still being found. Some are buried 20 feet in the earth. There- were 2100 new’workers engaged on the day of the disaster. Bill!I.IN, Sept, 23. Many others were injured. Some were flung 20 or 30 feet in the air eunents. Children in hod were killed by falling roofs.
The scene of the explosion presents a gruesome spectacle portions of human bodies banging from girders and pipes. HGSCTFS AT OPPAU. LONDON, Sept. 24. The latest news is that a fescue party have discovered sine workers alive in the ruins of the chemical works at Oppau. There were over 2000 working there when the explosion occurred.
