It is reported the United States Govennment is hopeful that an agreement or treaty may be concluded between the Allied and associated Governments prior to the convocation of the armament conference, whereby not only the status of Yap Island, hut also the related mandate questions, will be s;> fact only settled. It is regarded as certain that tho Allies will welcome any settlement of the Yap controversy that is agreeable to the United States and Japan, though technically all-the Powers must formally approve. Tt ;s understood that negotiations between America and Japan regarding Yap are progressing satisfactorily.
