INTERNAL GERMANY
AUSTH.U lAN AND N.Z. CAPI.K ASSOCIATION. PANIC IN GERMANY. OVER ERZEBERGER TRAGEDY. LONDON, August 29. The London “Daily Express’s” Bor- I lin correspondent says:—“Excitement prevails throughout Germany over Dr. Erzebergor’s assassination, and it is increasing almost to a panic- The German Cabinet yesterday issued a decree forbidding meetings or the issue of periodicals propaganding violent changes in the Government, or disobedience to the laws. An accompanying proclamation states that the national emergencies demand that the unscrupulous and misjudged elements’ machinations be opposed with an iron hand. The Go vernment is determined to undertake what the action of the foes to the constitution make necessary, and intends to show an unrelenting severity against any and every insurrection. The leaders of the Junker organisations are openly declaring that, in spite of the decree, they mean to continue their activities and they dare the Government to take proceedings against them. NERVOUS GERMANS. LONDON, Aug. 30 The “Daily Telegraph’s” Berlin correspondent says all Germany lias got an attack of nerves. Cabinet probably has been infected, hut Sunday’s proceedings at Potsdam seem to prove the dangers have been exaggerated. The town has been set on lire by explosives from both political extremes, reactionaries am’ Socialists', but the only blood shed Honed in personal affrays, not connected with the plans of either side. It is evident the people on both sides are anxious to avoid physical conflict. Only serious trouble can be provoked by the right which could profit by nothing short of a successful coupe detat. PROPOSED EXPULSION.
