Children’s Ball at Ruatapu

cNj’lic festivities in eonneettiou with the opening ol the Albert Hall at Rtiatapu were brought to a most successful conclusion on Thursday when a Juvenile Haney-Dress Hall was held. Over one hundred young people in many and varied costumes attended and their wants were catered for by an energetic Committee. The young folks surprised the large audience <>f grown up people with the knowledge they showed of the latest dances. The fancy dress competitions were decided by the audience and the following were the successful competitors: .Miss Ada Lynn as “Fairy”; Miss Grace Shadboll as “Old Lady, Victorian Period” ; Master Leo. Wilson as “Sundowner” ; Master Geo. Oates as “Last of the Mohicans.” The characters depicted gave evidence of a large expenditure of Lime material and ingenuity and reflected the highest credit on the competitors. Amongst the many costumes the following were conspicuous:—“Knitting Hag,” “Rosebuds”, “Toreador”, “Crusader”, “Cupids”, Hutterfly”,, “Boxer”, “Jacktar” “Chinaman”, “Dude” "Brigand” Misses Manora and Shadboll supplied the music for the dances and Mr T. Jones acted as M.C. The Hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion, a large Christmas Tree occupying the centre of the floor and the effect when illuminated was very striking. At the conclusion Mrs Butler expressed her great delight at meeting so many of the children and hoped that the evening they had iust enjoyed would he the forerunner of many others vet in store for them.
