Paper Pulp.
POSSIBILITIES IN FIJI. SUVA, (Fiji), July 30. Air Jerome, Dyer, 0.8. E., on behalf of British capitalists, recently visited Fiji with the view of ascertaining the possibilities of opening up new industries. One was the manufacture of power alcohol from cassova, and Mr Dyer obtained a number of guarantees in connexion with the proposal from local landowners. Another proposal was the making of wood-pulp for paper making and experiments. Van, a timber which is small hut profuse m growth, and a quick grower, was found suitable for the purpose. Mr Dyer returned to England, and this week Major Erie Webb. D.S.O. and AT.C.. with bar, n Christchurch (N.Z.) scientist arrived in Fiji to make further investigations. Air Wehh was scientist with Sir Douglos ATnwson. He has been instructed to come by Messrs Bonny. of England. Air Wehh. after the war. graded through Bonny’s works and studied all the phases of pulp-mnk-,n£r in Sweden. He is greatly impressed with the interesting geological problems in Fiji, and will also give attention to hydro-power possibilities within the colour. His visit, is causing deal of interest, and his report will ho looked forward to with much anticipation.
