The New Zealand Amateur Boxing championships were opened yesterday. The following were the results: Bantams—J. Purdy (Auckland) boat H. Howe (Wanganui), the latter being disqualified for holding. Featherweight—R. McDonald (Blackball heat C. Charles (Wellington).
Light-weight—L. Cox (Invercargill), heat H. May (Auckland). Harris (Diindin) beat Hooper (Ashburton). P. Maofarlane (Greymoutli), beat B. 0’ Keefe (Palmerston North). Griffiths (Westport) beat Robinson (Wellington) Welter-weights—L. O’Neill (Greymouth), beat M. Neylon (Invercargill) ; Baker (Auckland) beat J. Deviscovie (Dunollie).
Heavyweights—B. McCleary (Ashburton) beat C. McCrae (Nelson), Parker (Timaru) defaulted to Galt (Inveroargill).
