The fourth test match, which ended in a draw yesterday showed what a difference the wicket makes in the play. On the first day rain stopped all play Then with Sunday intervening the wicket proved easy and slow with the result that the howlers were almost helpless and the English team ran up a good score, though the hatting was very slow under the circumstances. Rain had fallen during the night again, so that when the Australians went to hat next day tile wicket was sticky and difficult. Th e Australian score was a good one under the circumstances the innings of Collins being a remarkably** fine one of the ‘‘rock’’ series, where Hie main necessity was to keep up the wicket and play against the clock. In this lie proved Very successful and so the draw was secured from a position that one time seemed difficult.
