CORRESPONDENCE. The Westland branch n! the Canterbury Progress League wrote urging the re-establishment of the annual show, the establishment of a farmers’ bureau in Hokitika, and installation of cow testing association. —Received. Mr Jeffries stated the League were prepared to give every possible assistance in the suggested movements if the Association took them up ns indicated in the letter.

Mr J. Fleming moved that the letter

Mr Williamson suggested l hat tin matter lie discussed hv tin l meeting. Mr Harr-oiirt asked wliat wits the innpose. The subscription had keen increased from 7s (id to L'l Is for the purpose of financing the limekiln and not In pay for.shows. He objected to their money being wasted like it had been previously. The Chairman said he was somewhat disappointed at the attendance. The only apologies he had were received from Messrs Evans, Harris and Monk, lie was glad to see a number from Amhnra. district present. He hoped that they would arrange for the holding of a show. Mr lloitlislon said the lime kiln was a purely local affair and he thought that should ho kept as a separate account and not he brought into the work of the Association. Hon 11. It. Michel was of opinion that the lime kiln should be assisted by an allowance from the general funds, a small sub-eommittee to have the management. He suggested the meeting set up a com in ti tec oi’ lour, to lx? uppointed to work with a. similar number of four prom the Progress League to go into the matter of holding an annual show. Mr Pilkington outlined the course that was followed in other centres, promising every assistance in helping on the successful carrying out of a show, which was one of the duties of an A.

Mr Wild suggested that if a show committee were appointed, they could set up a guarantee fund so as to not to cost the Association a penny. Pie moved that in the opinion of the' meeting a show was desirable and that the incoming committee sot up a sub-com-mittee to meet a similar number from the Progress League, with a view te considering conditions under which n show could he held without encroaching on the funds of the Association. Hon FT. Ti. Michel seconded the motion, stating there were now altered times to when previous shows were held and it was much easier for settlers to ■ get into town to attend. I Mr W. A. Jamieson endorsed the ro--1 marks of Mr Pilkington in connection

with a show. They had to look forward to their connecting up in the near future with Canterbury. But still the most important feature of their requirements was a lime kiln, because lime was an urgent necessity to the settlers of the district. The Chairman said the matter had been well discussed. Tie was in accord with the proposal of holding a show. The question of lime however, was a most important one for the Kokatnhi district.

Hon TI. L. Michel suggested that a small limited liability company of sixty members he formed to carry on the limekiln business.

A lengthy discussion took place, alter which the motion was agreed to. Mr R. Hareourt referred to the disgraceful condition of the roads in the Kokatnhi district, and said he would like to know where the rates were going to. He thought the meeting should enter a strong protest at the condition of affairs.
