A Transvaal iK ~f paper publishes an extraordinary story showing the tenacity of life of the hawk. As the bird was swooping on tho poultry yard of a farmer on the Vital River the farmer shot and killed it. Then ha found embedded in its body what appeared to be an arrow 2ft Oitt. in length, that apparently had been carried by the bird for a considerable period. As the arrow was of a peculiar kind unknown in the Transvaal enquiries were made ami a description given, and presently it was found thatLthe arrow was made bv a native tribe, the Aknmbas, of Ken. nyaland, 2000 miles away from the place where tho luiwk was killed. Further enquiries showed that the transfixing of the hawk by a small spear, by an Akamba native, was well remembered. The hawk had caused much loss in a chicken run, and was speared by a concealed native, but was rescued and ear. l ied off by its mate, and evidently recovered from tho wound, though it could not rid itself of the spear.
