Sister Ligouri’s Case
FURTHER EVIDENCE
AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOC ATION
' SYDNEY, July 8. j In the Ligouri ease, the Mother Su- , perior of the Wngga Convent gave evi- ' dence. Sho deposed that Sister Cigouri’s duties, were not arduous or laborious, as haid been alleged. Iho plaintiff had complained greatly of sleeplessness and of headaches. Three days before her escape she was great- ' ] v excited. Apparently she was unhinged. On the morning of her escape, sho complained of a headache. When she came back after escaping, however, she told witness that sho was sorry for what sho had gone. Witness denied either scolding or reprimanding Sister Ligouri in any way for her action, and added that in reply ,to a question, Sister Ligouri had said everybody in the convent had been kind to her, but that certain things had worried her. Witness said ther 0 was no difficulty in a Sister leaving a Convent if dissatisfied. Her wishes would be conveyed to the Bishop, who would do everything necessary. Sister Ligouri knew this. In further evidence in the Ligouri case the Mother Superor smilingly denied any intention of murdering Sister Ligouri. She added that the worst, consequences of the plaintiff’s action in leaving the Convent without permission would be that she would be compelled to leave the community, but her future would bo provided for. There was not the slightest ground for the expressed fear of the plaintiff- that she would be compulsorily taken back to tho Convent. Doctor Leahy gave evidence that he had known Sister JLigouri since 1915. He thought she was neurasthenic. She was highly strung and suffered from insomnia. When she first left the Convent, ho was of the opinion that she was suffering, from delusions, and was of unsound mind, and she had run away while so % suffering. (
