GENERAL SMUTS VISIT.

LONDON, July 7

Replying in Parliament to a question the Premier said lie understood that General Smuts went to Ireland at - > do Valera’s invitation. He did not know whether any other of the Dominion Premiers intended to visit Ireland. They would not attend the coming conference -between the Sinn Fein haulers and Sir J. Craig (Ulster Premier). The King has received General Smuts in audience, and General Smuts reported pn the result of his recent visit to Ireland. It is understood General Smuts was not too hopeful, lie believing that the Irish extremists hold the sway, and that they will refuse to recede from the demand for an Irish Republic. They do not appear anxious to find any middle + course.
