Thoughts For The Times
The Spectre of Unemployment. hi common with most portions of the civilised world, New Zealand is being subjected to a financial crisis resulting in sortie unemployment. This has more particularly been brought about by a sudden and substantial drop in the prices of our primary products, ’especially wool and butter. It seems a paradox that in this land of unsettled areas, with thousands of people wanting food, clothing and shelter, such a condition should be found. “Idle hands and idle lands.” Millions of acres wanting workers and hundreds of workers wanting work. What are our Statesmen going to do about it? Small relief works are planned and charity will probably be expected to fill tlie breach.
